The ole chemicals plant generally involves following processes:

Pre- treatment
Prior to splitting, the crude materials are purified for separating out impurities like gums, soaps, proteins and minerals. In this process, the crude is heated ad then treated with a small quantity of sulfuric acid.

Splitting
Depending upon the production capacity, a multi column or single tower is used for splitting process. Also known as hydrolysis, this splitting process is carried out in a continuous concurrent without any catalyst. The entire process is performed under medium or high pressure.

Distillation
After splitting, the fatty acids have some content of low- boiling and high- boiling substances that are removed by distillation. Distillation provides a light color and excellent stability to the fatty acids.

Fractionation
Finally, fractionation is done on the fatty acids to get pure quality of oleum chemicals.
